De-oiled rice bran (DORB) is a low-cost, versatile ingredient used widely in cattle, poultry, and fish feed, as well as in fibre-rich foods and antioxidant extraction. With rising demand and limited supply, its high fibre and anti-nutrient content can hinder utilisation—especially in fish. But smart strategies like fermentation, enzyme addition, and nutrient fortification can significantly enhance its value. Beyond feed, DORB also finds use in boiler fuel, sodium silicate, silica gel, and insulating materials.
DORB is commonly used to make cattle, poultry, and fish feed. It’s also used as boiler fuel and in the production of items such as sodium silicate, silica gel, insulating bricks, and other materials made from fully burnt rice husk ash.
